Not being able turn off all volume is a deal breaker. Even with sounds "off" via settings, I still get blaring announcer voices in things like puzzles where they say at full volume "That wasn't it, want to try again?" or whatever. I listen to audiobooks in the background and this app is constantly interrupting, and there's no way to completely mute it without turning off my phone media volume, which means no audiobook playing.

App was fine then they added some truly horrific ads. I don't even think they want to make money off the ads they just want to make the experience so excruciating that you pay for premium. It keeps putting my phone in landscape to play the ads and moving the X button around. Then I hit the X to close the ad and another ad will pop up and I have to hunt the X to close it again. Feels more like a virus than anything else. Just use Lichess, open source, no ads, same feature, not paywalled.

Best chess app there is, this app has it all. the subscription for game analysis is fairly priced. not bombarded with ads either. Puzzles, coaching, lessons, you can play versus bots, other players, or friends and set up the game to time specifications. Customize the board/sounds. the runescape sound effects were a pleasant surprise. The skill levels of the computer algorithms are broad. If you not only enjoy chess, but want to get better at it, this is the app for you.
